The Walrus is a large marine mammal with flippers that lives in coastal areas from northeastern Canada to Greenland. This is a step by step drawing tutorial on how to draw a Walrus using the Lettertoon method. This is a fun way to draw that takes the first letter of a subject and turns it into the subject.
How to Draw a Walrus Step by Step
Start by drawing a capital letter W.
Draw the cheeks and nose of the walrus on top of the W as shown in the example.
Add the top of the head to the nose and cheeks. Use the W to help you draw the Walrus tusks.
Draw two big ovals inside the head area. Two small dots drawn inside of these give our walrus his excited look. Draw the mouth area between the two tusks next, don’t forget to draw his tongue using a curved line inside.
Up to this point you have had a bit of the W you drew still showing, this next step will get rid of that. That W will now become part of the flipper for Willy the walrus.
Now we can draw in his back. It starts at the top of the tusk as shown in the example.
Fun Fact: There are White and Pink Walruses
(so something to keep in mind for when you add coloring to your Walrus later on)
Now we can draw in the tail and the belly. Start at the back and continue drawing until you reach the “elbow” of the flipper.
Now we can draw in the rest of the Walrus body. Draw in the neck and belly. Once this is drawn you can add in the second flipper. Only a bit of the flipper is showing because of how the Walrus is turned.
Time to add the details! Draw in four lines to each flipper. Add four whiskers to each Walrus cheek.
Now we can color Willy the Walrus, he thinks that he looks fantastic. If you enjoyed this tutorial please visit the How to Draw LetterToons Animal Series that showcases all of the alphabet letters.
