Dragonflies are very interesting subjects. They look beautiful and delicate but are also fierce predators in the insect world. They mostly eat mosquitos and midges but they have also been known to eat butterflies, bees, flies and even smaller dragonflies. We hope you enjoy this how to draw a cute dragonfly drawing guide. I would suggest starting in pencil because you may need to erase as we go through some of our steps.
How to Draw a Cute Dragonfly Step by Step
Start out by drawing an oval that lays on it’s side, this is the dragonfly head. Draw two scrolling lines that start near the middle of the head and continue outside the oval.
Let’s finish drawing the eyes. Draw a slightly pinched teardrop underneath the scrolling lines, add a circle inside of this. The pupil is a small dot inside. Draw a curved line for the smile. Add jagged lines for the fringe that ends in a point between the eyes.
Draw an opened half circle below the head, close it with jagged lines as shown.
Let’s draw the arms next, they are two bent lines that cross each other. Make the arms thicker at the top and thinner when they get to the elbows. Add the lines that make up hands.
Draw the half oval shape that appears behind the arms. Draw the jagged skirt that is below this as you see in our example.
Now we can draw the last section of our cute dragon fly. This shape is like a triangle that ends in a very thin, long point. Erase a section to add the legs on either side of this section, they are like the arms but not bent because they hang down from the body.
Add the legs that go out from the waist. Next add the ruffle that encompasses the triangle’s point. Draw the antenna that come out of the head.
Let’s move on to the wings now, draw two ovals on either side of our dragonfly. Does your dragonfly have a name yet? Ours is named Delilah.
Draw the second set of wings underneath the first set. Add smaller ovals inside of each wing as shown above.
