This is a cute little angel like you might find on top of a Christmas tree. Angels became the classic choice to top Christmas trees in order to symbolize the angels who appeared to shepherds to announce the birth of Jesus and originated with Queen Victoria. Hope you enjoy learning how to draw this angel.
How to Draw an Angel Step by Step
We will start by drawing the angel halo, it looks like an oval laying on it’s side, with another oval inside of it.
Add a bigger oval shape to the halo, this will be the angel face. Draw a pointed line inside, this will be the angel hair.
We can make simple eyes by drawing circles underneath the angel’s hair and adding circles inside of those circles. Add three curved lines to each side so that your angel has eyelashes. Another curved line beneath the eyes will be the angel smile. A square added under the chin is the angel’s neck.
Next add the open shape as shown in our example, this is the beginning of what will be the angel’s arms.
To the area below the arms we will draw a bell like shape. This is the angel’s body
FUN FACT: Some angels have six wings! This type of angel is called a Seraphim
Lets go back to the arms now, we can add the lines that make each arm area a sleeve. Add another line inside to be the opening of the sleeve. Now you have somewhere to put the hands. If you look at the example they are very simple pinched ovals.
Lets add the angel’s hair now. The lines that make up the angel hair are like the ones we used for the body but more pointed up at the ends. Now we can add trim to the bottom of the angel’s dress and sleeves.
Lets start on adding the wings now. Try to make them even by starting at about the level that you added the eyes.
To finish the wings you will repeat the line that you used to start them, if you look at the example you can see that each line is slightly shorter than the line before it. There are four visible lines used to make up the wings and one more very short line that ends under the angel’s elbow.
Now you can color your angel with any colors that you want to, I have used blue for the dress, yellow for the trim and brown for the hair, with a slightly darker blue inside of the sleeves to represent shadow. Click here for more cute Christmas pictures.
